Hi, and welcome to The Saucy Sitch! This is the awkward part of the blog that most people don’t read, but hey I will give it a go. That stunning picture above is of my hubby, Mike, and I stuffing our faces at our recent wedding. We served wood fired pizza and killer cool appetizers to our guests, if that doesn’t say “WE LOVE FOOD” I don’t know what does. We love to try new restaurants, drink craft beer and cook, cook, cook. I mean we really love food, so much so that I gained about 20 pounds the first two years we were dating.
In 2015 I decided I had, had enough of feeling crappy all the time and that the stretchy pants I had adopted as my only form of a wardrobe had to go. I was a total gym rat and eating what I thought was “healthy foods” before I met Mike, so it took some time to get over the shock and disappointment of letting myself go. I started counting calories again and I will say it, it just sucks and I kept giving up. I tried the juicing thing and I will say it again, it just sucks. Major props to all you calorie counting, juice loving peeps out there, it is tough…but I need to EAT, aka chew real food.
My Whole30 Journey
One day I saw a before and after picture on Instagram of a girl I knew that had recently completed a Whole30, and that spiked my interest. I did some research and found that this wasn’t really a “diet,” more of a lifestyle change and that was just what I needed. My first Whole30 I did lose about 8 pounds (which I can’t lie, was incredible), but I felt physically and mentally better than ever before. It was obvious to everyone the extreme changes I was experiencing, so much so that my husband, who I never thought in a million years would jump on-board, said he wanted to give Whole30 a try! For me, eating clean, whole, unprocessed foods is what makes my body and mind perform best. The benefits are endless, you can read the VERY long list of Whole30 Non-Scale Victories here, although I can say…most people (including myself) do experience weight loss.
The Saucy Sitch
The Saucy Sitch came from Mike and I’s love of putting sauce on EVERYTHING, and also what a life saver sauce can be during a Whole30. Only have time to bake a chicken breast and microwave some frozen veggies one night? Throw some chipotle aioli, or chimichurri, or pesto on that chicken and BAM…you’ve got yourself a whole new delicious dish. We have at least 3 homemade sauces on hand at all times, not including the entire shelf in our refrigerator dedicated to hot sauce. SAUCE IS LIFE!
After 6 rounds of Whole30 and being the foodies we are, I have had to come up with a variety of recipes to keep us from getting bored…or letting the dark side reel us back in, the dark side being CHEESE & GLUTEN! The Saucy Sitch is full recipes that are delicious, simple and most importantly clean…you may also find the occasional homemade pasta or decadent cheesy recipe, because well…pasta and cheese are freaking delicious!
It also might have to do with people calling me “saucy” from time-to-time, but who knows…I don’t get it. : )
